Software Engineer, Machine Building (Python)

Build the software that brings machines to life (C, C++, Python).

You write software that makes something physical move straight away. No abstract backend, but machines you hear running the moment your code is right. At TMC Machines, that's the norm.

TMC Machines builds customized machines and robotic lines, designed and built 100% in-house in Ieper, Belgium. How complex does it get? Our record stands at 26 servomotors in a single machine. Those motors, the robots, the axes: all of it has to be controlled, read out and monitored from the PC side. As a Software Engineer, you build exactly that layer.

What will you do?

  • PC software in Python: Python is your main language. You build the software that runs on the PC side of the machine: collecting data, monitoring processes, controlling machines and visualising it all in a clear interface.
  • High-performance parts in C/C++: Where speed or a direct hardware link matters, you switch to C or C++.
  • Interfacing with the control: The PLC control itself is handled by our PLC colleagues. Your software talks to it, reads out data and sends commands through. PLC knowledge is a nice plus, not a must.
  • Integration and testing: You couple your software to the hardware and test until everything is right. No simulation on a screen: you see the machine react to what you wrote.
  • Commissioning: You help with the start-up at the client. Your work is done when the machine runs the way it should.

Who are you?

  • Education and experience: A bachelor or master in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, Electromechanics or equivalent through experience. Strong starters with the right drive are welcome.
  • Python in your fingers: Python is your home base. You write clean, maintainable code and know your way around C or C++ when it's needed.
  • Data and interfaces: You are comfortable with data acquisition and building clear visualisations and operating screens.
  • Communication protocols: Modbus, Ethernet/IP, CAN bus and the like don't faze you.
  • Sensors and actuators: You understand how to read out data and drive hardware, and what happens at the other end of the cable.
  • Enough mechanics and electrical: Not to build the machine, but to work smoothly with the people who do.
  • Problem solver: You are analytical, dig in until you find the root cause and aren't satisfied with a temporary patch.

What do we offer you?

  • Attractive salary package: A gross monthly salary between €3,500 and €5,000 (depending on your experience), topped up with double holiday pay, a 13th month and pension savings.
  • Time off: A combination of statutory holidays and ADV days, so you have enough time to relax and recharge.
  • Training and growth: Want to become a specialist in machine software or grow into a leading role? We invest alongside you.
  • International work: Our machines run all over the world. So your software runs there too.
  • Small, strong team: Short lines, no layers of management. Your colleagues are as hooked on engineering as you are.

Why choose us?

At TMC you're not in a team of fifty all tinkering with the same little piece. Every machine is different, every assignment unique, and your software helps decide whether it works. Your code doesn't leave the cloud, but steel structures with servomotors and cobots.

Keen to write software you hear running afterwards? Send your CV to ramses@tmc-machines.be.

Tired of the status quo? Then step out of line.

Send your CV and a short motivation to Ramses and tell us what drives you.
